Kellogg Community


Kellogg is located in North Idaho, just about 35 miles southeast of the city of Coeur d'Alene. Home to about 2,400 residents, Kellogg is historically a mining town located in North Idaho's "Silver Valley" along the edge of Coeur d'Alene National Forest. Today's economy in Kellogg is mostly centered around tourism and recreation thanks to the multitude of historical places and mountain resorts in the area.


Kellogg Education


Young students in Kellogg attend Sunnyside Elementary school and progress on to Kellogg Middle school and eventually Kellogg High School. Alternative and private schooling options include Little Learners, Silver Valley Christian Academy and Silver Valley Alternative school. The nearest college is North Idaho College located in Coeur d'Alene and also the University of Idaho approximately 60 miles away in Moscow, Idaho.


Kellogg History


Kellogg is named after its founder, Noah Kellogg, a miner who staked a claim here and discovered the Bunker Hill mine that was a centerpoint of the area's economy for a century. Mining is one of the most common draws to the area including the Bunker Hill and Sullivan mines as well as the Crystal Gold mine.

Kellogg Recreation


No matter what kind of recreation you are interested in, you are bound to find something exciting near Kellogg. With Kellogg Peak towering over the city at 6,300 feet and Wardner Peak nearby at 6200 feet, the primary recreation theme tends to be things like skiing, snowboarding, hiking and other mountain sports. The major local hotspot is Silver Mountain Resort featuring shops, restaurants, entertainment, meeting facilities, and the luxury Morning Star Lodge condominiums, along with multiple slops for skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing, and even an indoor water park!
